Filmmaker

Alberto Gemmi (1984) studied at the Helsinki Faculty of Arts, specialised in film at the University of Bologna and obtained a Master’s degree in Filmmaking in Paris. Interested in the interaction between image, sound and memory, his research focuses on observing of changes in the landscape and on complex societal issues, through the use of a language close to visual anthropology and the recovery of archive films. Go Burning Atacama Go won Best Experimental Film at the Lucca Film Festival (Italy) and was screened at various international festivals. Sinai – Another Step on Earth was presented national premiere at the 32nd Turin Film Festival (Italy). His first documentary film Ogni Opera di Confessione had its world premiere at the 47th edition of Visions du Réel (Switzerland). Part of his work has been premiered at the Lite Haus gallery in Berlin in 2019. Together with musicians and performers, he has curated video installations, sound recordings, performances and workshops on cinema. Since 2013, he has worked in the restoration laboratory L’Immagine Ritrovata, part of the Cineteca di Bologna.
