Mariana, a four-year-old girl, grows up surrounded by stories and legends. As her loved ones leave one by one, her surroundings slowly transform, until, at eighteen, she faces a crucial decision about her future.
Balearic premiere. Opera prima. With the presence of the director.
Iván Castiñeiras returns to his childhood home, the so-called “raya seca” (dry border), the oldest border in Europe, a meeting place where different peoples coexisted and built a shared history over the centuries, and which today separates the communities of Galicia and Portugal.
Filmed over 15 years on ethereal 16 mm, Deuses de pedra traces the texture of memory and moves along these borders —both geographical and temporal— exploring the metamorphosis of society and reflecting on identity and belonging.
