MALLORCA 1-5.10.2024
For the sixth consecutive year, the real cinema arrives in Mallorca, focusing on the relationship between those filming and those being filmed.
The eight films in the official selection will transport us, but more importantly, they will make us vibrate.
Thanks to eight filmmakers, we will witness the search for an eccentric super-race at the North Pole; we will explore colonial memory in a soldier’s lagoon; we will see how
three sisters share inherited land at the foot of an erupting volcano; we will return to Palestine with an actress who fled three decades ago in pursuit of her dreams in Europe; and we will track and be tracked by Iberian wolves; we will clean up the house of a charming man who accumulates junk; we will observe twelve years of problems for a boy who becomes a teenager on the streets of Budapest; and we will
experience the confinement and longing of mothers in a Chilean prison.
In addition, this year we will launch a section of short films from the Balearic Islands, the majority of which have never been published, to highlight local talent. We encourage you to be carried away by this winding trip through people, places, and periods, where yielding to a different rhythm will be the ultimate act of rebellion.
Miguel Eek, Artistic Director of MajorDocs
MajorDocs is the international creative documentary film festival in Mallorca; a space to discover other realities and other perspectives through carefully selected creative documentaries.
In a time defined by the sheer excess of content, MajorDocs proposes a slow experience: a journey through eight films, each with a deep author’s gaze, that encourage us to stop, step away from our daily lives and connect with not just the other, but also with our own sensibility.
Five days to reflect, ask and discuss each film with its author in an intimate and close setting, without lecterns or pedestals. Each screening will be a unique event without counterprogramming since it is our goal to take care of each film and each author.
During the festival, renowned filmmakers and new talents will share their experiences with the public. An event that will stimulate the critical eye through screenings and talks, as well as workshops and discussions on documentary cinema.
An unmissable date for anyone who enjoys looking without limits, discovering the unknown and stirring their heart.
MajorDocs goes out and looks for a creative documentary…
Hybrid, innovative, transgressive, adventurous.
Able to transcend the present and keep questioning ourselves in the future.
Useless – in which art prevails over functionality.
That digs deeply into the ins and outs of a complex world without staying on the surface.
That leaves a mark on the audience and is able to short-circuit the passive spectator.
In which the author’s gaze prevails over the facts.
Able to transcend, if the film demands for it, the limits of the classic narrative.
The 8 films selected in MajorDocs will compete in a single official international section. The documentaries in competition will be eligible for two awards:
JURY AWARD:
Granted by the three members of the Majordocs international jury. It includes a cash prize of €1,500 that will be given at Majordocs closing ceremony.
AUDIENCE AWARD:
Voted by the festival’s viewers.
PITCH AWARD:
Official DOCMA prize worth €1,500 and distribution consultancy.

Documentary film is a powerful tool for individual and social transformation. That is why Majordocs goes further and wants to be a platform for groups and social entities to find an inclusive and supported space to not only enjoy the experience of going to the cinema, but we want to do so with the complicity of the festival’s community area. That is why we dedicate a line of the festival to supporting all those entities that consider that the stories shown by the authors can be useful for each of the groups that visit us.
Majordocs offers free tickets through the Apropa Cultura platform and personalized work is carried out with each of the entities that request to attend the festival to work together on the aspects of each film that may be interesting for each group. In some cases, actions are carried out before or after the screening, with the intention of deepening and reflecting on the aspects proposed by the filmmakers.
In this way, Majordocs contributes to guaranteeing cultural rights, through inclusion and attention to social diversity, a fundamental aspect for society and for community development.
All the films of the festival will be screened in rooms 1 and 2
Covered terrace next to Cineciutat to socialize between movies.
