In her early twenties, Hiam Abbass left her native Palestinian village to follow her dream of becoming an actress in Europe, leaving behind her mother, grandmother, and sisters. Thirty years later, her filmmaker daughter Lina returns with her to the village and questions for the first time her mother’s bold choices, her chosen exile, and the way the women in their family influenced both their lives.
Balearic premiere. With the presence of the editor.
Lina Soulamen, a Palestinian-Algerian director, walks us through her family’s home archive in a melancholy tone, bridging one of the world’s most intricate geopolitical crises: Israel-Palestine.
The depiction of four generations of women in her family reveals an identity divided across countries.
A poetic essay on a territory only accessible via memory. A deeply touching trip between the past and the present that leaves us with questions about the future.
