Why must you see it?
Spanning the space between the sea and the Earth’s interior, Krakatoa transforms a story of survival into an experience of matter. Carlos Casas takes the 1883 eruption—and a lost sound he seeks to reconstruct—as his starting point to guide a fisherman into the heart of the Earth. As the journey delves into these depths, the film transforms along with it: sound, light, color, and vibration cease to represent the catastrophe and instead become the very material of cinema, until man and mineral merge in a single, unified movement.
