SYNOPSIS
Through the eyes of a 12-year-old Juvi, we experience life of some inhabitants of the oldest mine in Bolivia, whose deaths weigh as much as the mined silver, confronting the limits of human endurance, and the remanence of history’s bloodstains. A visual statement on the foundations of modern wealth.
Balearic premiere. With the presence of the director.
Why must you see it?
First, the Cerro Rico mining complex dominates the horizon; little by little, what is extracted from it dissolves the distance between the mountain and our daily lives. Moving from the surface to the darkness of the mine, Natalia Koniarz composes a mosaic of bodies, gestures, dust, and stone, in which extraction runs through families and generations. From cameras to artificial intelligence, silver is also part of the technological present we inhabit. The mountain thus ceases to be merely a landscape and becomes an unsettlingly close presence.
